Safety Tips
Here are some safety tips that will protect you and your loved ones while you are on the road:
- Always buckle up.Seatbelts have been proven to save lives and reduce injuries. As the driver, you should always make sure that all your passengers have fastened their seatbelts before you start the vehicle.
- It is illegal in BC to use your cellular phone while driving.Keep your mind alert and stay focused on the road. Your mind can easily get distracted when you're on the phone, and your level of alertness will decrease significantly.
- Check your tire pressure frequently.Do not rely on an automatic tire pressure monitoring system, as it only provides a warning when the pressure has reached a dangerously low level. You should manually check your tire pressure at least once or twice a month.
- Have your vehicle serviced regularly.Take your vehicle in for its regular maintenance check-ups to ensure that it is in good shape and is safe to drive.
- If possible, always place your belongings in the trunk.During urgent braking, unfastened items in the backseat may hit the back of your seat and pose a risk to your safety and other passengers in the vehicle. Make sure that both you and your pets are safe by properly restraining them if you're bringing them with you on the road.
- Adjust the volume of the radio to an audible, but not loud, level.Always make sure that you are aware of what is happening around you, and that includes an approaching emergency vehicle with sirens.
- Keep your doors locked, including child locks if you have children onboard. If you are approached by someone while your vehicle is stopped, only roll down your windows enough to hear what the person is saying. Keep your children safe in the car by securing all child locks.
